Seeking Homeschooled Youth Ages 17-20
Now accepting applications for our Fall Mentorship program here at Haven Village from highly motivated, creative and positive youth (ages 17-20 years) who are looking to learn on the land for our Fall Mentorship Program starting at the end of August. We are seeking 2 youth who have been homeschooled and are in a gap year or looking for their next big adventure where they can learn real life, hands-on skills to move them forward on their future career path in a supportive, nature-based environment.
Must have a serious interest in areas of animal husbandry, how to run a working farm, learning how to build and natural building techniques.
Skills learned to include: raising laying chickens and rabbits, management of small and large livestock (goats, pigs, cows), pasture management, fencing and rotational grazing, processing and butchering, variety of food preservation methods, learning how to prepare and cook foods, growing and harvesting food with various gardening and permaculture methods, beekeeping, building swales and planting orchard and berries, mowing, weeding, chopping wood, learning how to use all kinds of tools and heavy equipment (to include a tractor and sawmill).
Must be a good team player, have basic life skills (cooking, use of tools) and be able to manage their own time and work on solo projects independently to master a skill during their stay. Sample independent projects could include woodworking projects (build a chicken coop or goat shelter for example), learning how to make sourdough bread or make cheese or creating a min vlog during their stay.
Mentorship by a caring team of adults with diverse skillsets as well as opportunities to meet lots of interesting folks when we host our weekend events. Plenty of time for independent projects, personal work and reflection and connection in Nature. Accommodations and most meals provided. Must cover travel expenses and have some funds for personal items and local adventures.
This is not an option for parents seeking a solution for children they are having challenges with. We are seeking high-functioning young adults that have been raised by freedom-loving parents who can add value and offer a helping hand in exchange for an incredible educational opportunity. We cannot accept applicants on medications or dealing with any health issues, depression, addictions or behavior issues.
